Hindutva terror: Aseemanand says no to ‘saffron’ lawyers

Jaipur: In a surprising turn of event which has left Hindutva groups stunned, Swami Aseemanand, an accused in Samjhauta Express, Ajmer, Mecca Masjid and Malegaon blasts, has rejected offers of legal help from lawyers who are allegedly associated with saffron groups. Instead he has asked for a government counsel.

According to S.S. Ranawat, the Additional Superintendent of police, Rajasthan ATS, some lawyers had contacted Aseemanand and offered their services but he categorically refused to entertain their offer. In fact, according to reports, after this refusal on the Swami’s behalf, several lawyers representing other accused in Ajmer blast case, expressed apprehensions whether he has turned approver for the state.

But few lawyers in the state capital also believe that at this stage it would be far fetched to believe that Aseemanand has agreed to become an approver. Instead, they think that Aseemanand refused to take services of private lawyers, just because he claims to have little or no money, which is why he wants a government lawyer.
